"Life Of Pi" captures a moment in time in the life story of a boy who lives in a lifeboat drifting in the middle of the ocean without food and water for almost two weeks. The film is the story of a boy named Pi (Irrfan Khan) as he embarks on an epic journey to find his father, Figo (Rajneesh Duggal), the love of his life.
The film generated 3.2 billion dollars at the box office worldwide, including the U.S., and was a critical and commercial success, receiving eight Academy Award nominations. It won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy, for Khan, and Best Screenplay for Daldry and Spool. It won Best Animated Feature at the 2013 Annie Awards, and went on to receive the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature, Anderson Leong Documentary Award, and Asian Academy Award. It is the third Best Foreign Language Film Oscar winner in Academy history after "A Separation" (Iran 2010) and "The Salesman" (Iran 2012).
"Life of Pi" was commercially released in India on December 20, 2012, and was announced as the first Indian 3D film to be shown in IMAX theatres. IMAX India reportedly estimated that 13,000 Indian moviegoers paid for $6 (Rs. 380), a rare event, to watch the film in IMAX in its first week. IMAX India anticipated that the second week would be similar, and said that the film could break Indian box office records by earning 50-60 percent more than the domestic grosses of any Indian film previously. d2c66b5586
